CLIFFORD K. BERRYMAN (1869-1949) American illustrator best known as the originator of the "Teddy Bear" which he created in a 1902 political cartoon. Lengthy inscription and signature on the front blank flyleaf of his book of cartoons for the annual Gridiron Dinner, Mother Goose in Gridiron Rhyme (Washington: The Gridiron Club, December 9, 1911), 74pp. 4to., titled and illustrated paper wraps. Inscribed and signed "To H. W. Berryman with regrets that he could not be present at our last Gridiron Club Dinner This Book is inscribed by the illustrator C.K. Berryman Washington D.C. Dec. 9, 1911 ". A few minor marginal chips, spine fairly tight, front wrap partially detached, otherwise very good. $300-400
