Description:

BEN SHAHN
(1898-1969) Lithuanian-American artist known for his social realist works. Shahn began as an assistant to Diego Rivera, later becoming a commercial artist for CBS and Harper's. He is perhaps best remembered for his 1965 portrait of Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. Fine signed lithograph, 13" x 10", a black and white watercolor image showing a dove in flight and adorned with a red stamp in Hebrew at top left. Shahn signs in pencil at bottom margin: "For Ole after an unusual afternoon Sept-3-63 Ben Shahn". Simply framed. Light offsetting at far margins from prior framing does not detract, very good.
