Description:

BELGIAN JEW'S 'J.' STAR OF DAVID PATCH, CLOTHING-REMOVED
Very rare, genuine yellow Belgian-issue 'J.' printed Star of David, used by a Belgian Jew during the Second World War. These were worn so Jews could be publicly identified by the German authorities in Belgium, its collaborators and sympathizers. The 3 3/8 in. wide thin cloth patch is in lightly worn condition, with the proper weave, ink type and sharpness to confirm the authenticity of the badge. It also still has holes from having been hand-sewn to a garment, as well as some of the original crude beige threads used in the application. The reverse shows that the edges of the star were folded-over before it was sewn to a garment, and these folds have clearly been present for decades. Some spotting to the reverse, else very good. The vast majority of such badges are in unused condition, this 'worn' example is especially rare. From a 50+ year British collection.
