(1866 - 1943) English writer and illustrator of children's books, creator of the charming characters Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin and Mrs. Tiggy Winkle. Rare partial A.L.S. with interiesting genealogical content, "H. B. Heelis (Beatrix Potter", 1p. sm. 8vo., [n.p.], Feb. 26. [19]22, the concluding page to a letter, nonetheless complete in itself. In full: "Mr. Meinzenthagan[?] has omitted all mention of the two children of Thomas Bayley Potter and Mary Ashton. The oldest son Tom, and Edith the daughter, who became a nun. These two, who became Roman Catholics, did not agree very well with the others. Mary Ashton was sister of Benjamin Ashton and Mrs. Burckhardt, they were first cousins of my grandmother Jane Ashton, wife of John Leech of Gorse Hall. H. B. Heelis (Beatrix Potter)". Central fold, else very good condition.
