('BAND OF BROTHERS' 506TH P.I.R.) LT. ROBERT E. HALEY PARATROOPER CANTEEN
ROBERT E. HALEY (1919-2004) American military officer in the 101st Airborne Division, a well-rounded student and athlete from Connecticut who served first with the 541st P.I.R., then more famously as 506 P.I.R. He remained with the 506th, transferred to Co. E in July, 1945, until June, 1947. A great 506th PIR relic, Haley's M1941 paratrooper canteen and insulated cover with the rare swivel belt attachment also present. The canteen is the standard aluminum issue with chained black cap. It is set within the insulated cover which is reinforced with stitching to the front and with several sewn-on straps to the reverse. The front is stamped 'U.S.' in black, with the maker 'NU-MODE INC. 1943' appearing on the back. The belt attachment is an M1941 Paratrooper/Cavalry canteen hanger, not issued to G.I.s. Both are very good. SOLD WITH: a war-date document signed by Haley in both block letters and cursive, 1p. oblong 8vo., Apr. 28, 1943, asking that a monthly allotment of $6.60 be deducted from his pay, which u8ltimately was sent to his mother in Hartford. Marginal chips, very good. Obtained directly from Haley's family who kept his lockers since his passing. With supporting documentation from Haley's records.
