[ Autographs ] William T. Sherman Nice content A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo., St. Louis, June 23, 1885 to Mary Audenreid, widow of Sherman's aide- de-camp Joseph C. Audenreid. In part: " '..you do seem to have a hard & lonely time, but think of others such as poor Mrs. Beatty ... Washington has undergone as many changes in one day as any city of the country... I did hope the bracing air of Fort Totten would restore her to health...' Of the lady's daughter, Sherman mentions: '..It would be a strange freak of nature if Florence should become a nun. I will not believe it... ' Fine condition.
