Young writes a friend: "..we have left Washington and gone down the Potomac... opposite Budd's Ferry... we can see the rebels building their batteries across the river. They try to throw over a shell or two most every day just for compliment's sake but they can't hit us, while our batteries throw our shells into their camp... One of our schooners run the blockade just for the purpose of drawing tire of their guns so we could find out where their batteries are stationed They fired one hundred and live shots at her and hit her only once..."
