[ Autographs ] Union Soldier's Letter Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., Cumberland, Md., Sep. 27, 1864 Michael Riley writes to his girlfriend: ' '..next Friday a member of the 5th Pa. Vol. is to be hung for the murder of a man... the troops around here are all to be present to see him hung... "he also includes a small drawing of a soldier with backpack and rifle returning home to "Emma" who rushes to greet him at the door. Beside it he writes: "And when the War is over those joys we will renew. We will live in love together for we've nothing else to do' Very good.
