[ Autographs ] UNION CIVIL WAR PLAYING CARDS A complete set of war- dated patriotic "Union cards", with the suits represented by flags, diamonds, shields, and eagles, and the hand-colored face cards depicting generals and Lady Liberty. The cards were published by the American Card Company of New York, copyrighted in 1862. The bottom half of the original box, which comes with the cards, bears a tax stamp which would date the box to 1863. As expected of cards taken in the field, the deck is well used, with rounded edges and one card witha repaired tear which went through the card, but all cards are present intact, and generally stiff and displayable. The deck has a lot of character, and it would be interesting to know what it had seen in its past. About good.
