[ Autographs ] Timothy Pickering Fine content war-date A.L.S. 1p. 8vo, Way Office [Philadelphia], Dec. 31, 1779 to Brigadier General William Woodford. In part. '... The Board are interrupted in more important business by the frequent applications of the Virginia Soldiers for the allowances for deficiencies of cloathing - and there is more danger of error & imposition than if the business was conducted in the proper channel... order all such [?] of the soldiers to be settled by the regimental paymasters, who... shall be furnished with money by the board, on estimates or returns signed by you...' William Woodford 1735-1780 served as brigadier general of the lst Virginia Brigade and fought at Brandywine, Germantown, and Charlestonwhere he was captured. Moderate damp-staining does not affect legibility, one chip in right margin touches one word of text.
