Lot 101
[ Autographs ] SAMUEL K. ZOOK (1823 - 1863) Union brigadier general who commanded the 57th N.Y. in the Peninsula, mortally wounded commanding a division at Gettysburg and posthumously breveted major general. Excessively rare war-date A.D.S. "S. K. Zook" at the bottom of a listing of 16 men in his command, 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Oct. 21, 1862 The listing is apparently a request for replacements for officers no longer available, presumably due to retirement, resignation or death, and lists the ranks, companies, and the names of those being replaced. At the bottom Zook writes in full: "The above are recommended for immediate promotion under the condition named in my letter to Adjt. Genl. Hillhouse of this date Oct. 21/62 S. K. Zook Col. 57th N.Y.V." Folds, otherwise fine condition. Zook, especially in war-date material, is exceptionally rare!
