[ Autographs ] Robert Morris Unusual D.S. 4pp. folio, Philadelphia, Oct. 9, 1794, being partly-printed Articles of Agreement concerning the formation of "The Asylum Company" which had been founded by Robert Morris and Pennsylvania Comptroller General John Nicholson on April 22, 1794 The venture intended to purchase lands: "'..within thestate of Pennsylvania, to the extent of one mil- lion acres or thereabout...' and would be headed by a Board of Managers to oversee the firm's affairs. The bottom half of page three is a printed stock certificate hand numbered No. 189 issuing "one action or share in theentire property of the Asylum Company' to John Nicholson and is boldly signed by Morris as President and John Duncan as Secretary. Two weak folds backed with in offensive tape, slight margin wear, otherwise very good.
