[ Autographs ] JOSHUA L. CHAMBERLAIN (1828 - 1914) Union brigadier general of the 20th Maine whose valiant defense of Little Round Top prevented the Confederates from turning the line at Gettysburg. Chamberlain was also present at Lee's surrender at Appomattox. A.L.S. 2 separate pages, 8vo., Brunswick, Sep. 23, 1871 to C. A. Donnell concerning repairs to be made to a boat owned by Chamberlain. In part:"...I don't know anything about the notch board, but suppose Capt. Stove got it. It never came to my yacht...I will be accountable for it..I found the pump. When I came to set it, in two pieces, never havingbeen properly soldered...I would have returned it if I could have..."Near fine, and a good example for display.
