Attractive partly-printed D.S. "James Madison" as President, 1p. folioparchment, Washington, April 2, 1812, a scallop-top ship's passport issued to the brig Rhoda Betsey of New York, 233 tons with a crew of eleven men. Co-signed by Secretary of State and future President JAMESMONROE (1758-1831). Typical folds with a 4" x 3/4" blank corner removed at upper-left and two tiny file holes affecting nothing, otherwise boldly signed and in fine condition.
