[ Autographs ] THOMAS JEFFERSON (1743 - 1826) Third President of the United States, author and signer of the Declaration of Independence, ceased the importation of slaves to America. Partly-printed D.S. on vellum signed "Th: Jefferson" as President and co-signed by Secretary of State "James Madison", 1p. folio, Washington, May 9, 1808, a land grant for 666 2/3 acres "...between the Little Miami and Sciota Rivers north-west of the River Ohio..." to John Heth who had served as a lieutenant in the Virginia line of the Continental Army. Jefferson's signature is a tad light, otherwise very good with only light foxing and soiling.
