Steedman 1817-1883 Union major general who personally carried his regimental colors forward at Chickamauga, instructing his staff officer to see that his name was spelled correctly in the obituaries. Fine war date S.P., a carte-de-visite photograph, 2in x 3.5in showing Steedman seated in the uniform of a major general, signed by him on verso: "Yours truly, James B. Steedman Maj. Genl." Backstamp reads: "Schwing & Rudd Photographers Army of the Cumberland". In very good condition.
