[ Autographs ] Henry E. Mcculloch 1816-1895 Confederate brigadier general in command of Texas' defensive forces and led a brigade in an attempt to relieve Vicksburg. Rare A.D.S. as Sheriff of Gonzalez Co. Rep. of Texas, on the verso of a legal document 1p., 8vo,, Jan. 12, 1844 The document concerns an affidavit filed with the Chief Justice regarding "..... a foul and unprovoked murder... committed on the body of William Polke by Edward D. Davis and James Taylor ..to answer the charge of murder..." On the verso McCulloch writes "... on the 19th 19th executed by taking the body of James Taylor into custody and Edw'd D. Davis made his escape by flight. H. E, McCulloch Shff." Very Good
