[ Autographs ] George B. McClelland 1826 - 1885 Union major general and general-in-chief of the army whose hesitation in attacking Confederate forces caused him to be sacked by Lincoln. A.L.S. 3pp. 4to., New York, Mar. 26, 1872 to New York Gov. John I Hoffman. As Commissioner of Docks McClellan discusses the creation of "West Street" on the East River and suggests a few fellow generals to sit on a commission, namely A. A. Humphreys, William B. Franklin, and John Newton. Fine condition, expertly inlaid.
