ROMMEL (1891 - 1944) German field marshal whose Afrika Corps threw back repeated British and American assaults in North Africa, later he defended Normandy and ultimately was forced to commit suicide due to his implication in the Hitler bomb plot. Raregood content and probable war-date A.L.S. "Erwin" on the verso of a postcard showing Weimar, [n.p., ca. mid-1940] written to his wife, in German, in pencil. In full: "Dearest Wife! Many thanks for your dear letter. There is really a lot happening here. [Hermann] Goering is just arriving. I hope to go to P[aris?] next Thursday at 2:00 PM. Heartfelt regards and regards to our son. Your Erwin". One small, light spot in text, otherwise. fine condition. In the attack on France Rommel led the 7th Panzer Division in a pivotal role.
