[ Autographs ] ELBRIDGE GERRY (1744 - 1814) Signer of the Declarationof Independence and member of the Continental Congress who opposed ratification of the Constitution as drafted. A.L.S. "E. Gerry" 1p. 8vo., Cambridge, Aug. 27, 1793 to a Mr. Hodge, in part: "...[I have not received] the box containing Harrington's cloathes which please tosend...he is a very bad fellow, having run off in my former coachman'sdebt as well as mine, & detained some money which the former sent by him to repay a loan which he obtained of me..."
