[ Autographs ] (American Prisoner) Manuscript D.S. 1p. sm. folio, Suffolk, Oct. 25, 1779, a deposition of an American sailor captured by the British off Nova Scotia in December, 1778 In part: "...I was drove in shore in the Schooner Bangor by a British Cruiser ... [William Greenwood] furnished us, and a number of other prisoners ( forty three in number) with a Vessel... [in Nova Scotia] accommodated at the houses of the said William and Thomas... kindly and generouslyentertained by them gratis... staunch friends to the United States ofAmerica, and carefully conceal'd us, notwithstanding they might have had a bounty of five pounds Halifax Currency per head for every American they shall discover and deliver up to the Authority... ' Sea] tear in right margin slightly affects two words, otherwise very good.
