[ Autograph ] Walt Whitman 1819-1892 American poet whose volume of verse Leaves of Grass was initially rejected by the public and cost him his job in the federal government. It was only in his later years that his genius became recognized world-wide. Boldly penned A.L.S. onthe verso of a postcard, Camden, June 1, 1890 to a Miss Drewry in London. In full: "Camden New Jersey U.S. America July 1, 1890 In accordance with note of June 20 ( rec'd with pay, thanks) I send same mail, same address as this two Vols., requested. Soon as they arrive w'd you kindly send me word (by card will do). Walt Whitman". With holograph address on verso, very good.
