[ Autograph ] Franklin Pierce A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo., Rye, Oct. 8,1866 to his sister-in-law Mrs. John Aiken. In part: "...I was out most of yesterday - down to Portsmouth in the morning and passed the afternoon in the woods on my farm to select suitable trees out of which to manufacture timber for my cottage... " Pierce also mentions his illness, which he compares to a bout of cholera, lays out his plans to travel to Concord, and asks Aiken to remember him to his wife Jane. Fine condition.
