[ Autograph ] Billie Holiday 1915-1959 "Lady Day", American jazz singer who recorded with Benny Goodman and Count Basie, toured with Basic and Artie Shaw, and became an internationally-famous concert and cabaret performer. Holiday is considered to be one of the supremejazz singers of all time. Most important D.S. " Elenora Fagan' (her proper name), 21pp. 4to., New York, Mar. 18, 1957, being Holiday's contract to perform songs in a film to be made of her life, and most likely her very last recording contract! From an archive of material concerning the sale of her rights in the biographical film "The Lady Sings the Blues", this document between Holiday and noted producer Lester Cowan (who also signs) employs the singer to perform and record twelve songs intended by Cowan to be used in the proposed filmadapted from her biography. It is agreed between the parties that Holiday will receive E25,000 for her services in several installments as well as a fifty percent share in the profits of the venture. Her film biography was released in 1959, and remade in the 1970s starring Diana Ross. An incredible document, in very good condition.
