[ Autograph ] Billie Holiday Very important D.S. " Elenora Fagan' ( her proper name), 3pp. 4to., New York, Feb. 11, 1957, being Holiday's copyrighted agreement to sell all motion picture and radio rights to her biography "The Lady Sings the Blues". The contract between Holiday, her biographer William Dufty and producer Lester Cowan was intended for Cowan's proposed motion picture on the turbulent and troubled life of Holiday. This document is a brief synopsis of a muchlonger contract negotiated between Holiday and the film producer, and is intended for purposes of transferring copyright title of the biography to Cowan. Cowan's film hopes of course came to fruition, first with the release of "The Lady Sings the Blues" in the 1950s, and the immensely-popular remake which starred Diana Ross in the 1970s. A fine jazz item! Very good.
