ARTHUR GREISER
(1897 - 1946) SS-Obergruppenfuhrer and Reich Governor of the German-occupied territory of Wartheland. He was one of the persons primarily responsible for organizing the Holocaust in Poland, ordering mass deportations, gassing mental patients, and receiving permission from Himmler to kill 100,000 Jews in his area. He later killed 150,000 more using gas vans. War date Fine content and association T.L.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Posen, Feb. 8, 1944, writing to OTTO TELSCHOW (1876-1945), the anti-Semitic Gauleiter of Eastern Hannover from 1925 to 1945, founded the weekly Nazi newspaper Niedersachsen-Sturmer, and often gave speeches against Jews, Freemasons and Communists. He committed suicide at war's end by slashing his wrists and ingesting poison shortly after his capture. Greiser's letter reads, in part: ‘…In agreement with the Reichsfuhrer-SS and the head of the party chancellery, I am enclosing the text of the speech given by the Reichsfuhrer-SS on October 24, 1943 on the occasion of Freedom Day to the assembled leadership corps of the party, the Wehrmacht, the state and the economy of the Reich Wartheland region in Posen. The speech derives its particular significance from the ethnic policy determinations that the Reichsfuhrer made in his capacity as Reich Minister of the Interior and Reich Commissioner for the Consolidation of the German Nationality…' Near fine.
