ANTOINE DE LAFORET
(1756-1846) French Consul General to the United States immediately following the Revolutionary War. Good association A.L.S., 1p. long 4to., Philadelphia, June 1 , 1792, to Silas Talbot, the Continental Army and Navy officer best remembered as the commander of the frigate U.S.S. CONSTITUTION. De Laforet remind Talbot of an outstanding debt, in part: "...But you seem to have forgot entirely the generous & kind behavior of that gentleman towards your children. It is painful to me in the highest degree to be in the necessity to renew my application in his behalf... I request you would settle as speedily as possible with him. I am repeatedly solicited by the intendant of the navy to bring to an issue the claim of Mr. Pluchon against you and I trust that you will avoid to give room to unfavorable impression by further delay..." De Laforet signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows folds with some minor splitting, with chips, slight foxing and toning to the edges, else very good.
