ANN HOPKINSON
(1747 – 1827) Daughter of the founding family of Bordentown, New Jersey and wife of Francis Hopkinson, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Great association A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], April 14, 1773, to her brother-in-law THOMAS MCKEAN (1735-1817), signer of the Declaration of Independence, member of the Continental Congress, and Governor of Pennsylvania. In part: ‘...I have heard of an opportunity of writing to you, and letting you know that your dear children are all well excepting Betsy...her measles have begun to turn and the fever is better...Mr. Hopkinson has to Bordentown to see the children poor little lambs. I long to see them, but the sight of them is more then I can yet bear. I hardly know what I Have wrote for this short as it has cost me many tears...'. The letter is a bit delicate, displaying several tears throughout.
