Description:

ANGELA HITLER
(1883 – 1949) Elder half-sister of Adolf Hitler. By her first husband, Leo Raubal, Sr., she was the mother of Hitler's alleged lover, Geli Raubal. On Jan. 20, 1936 she married architect Prof. Martin Hammitzsch who later became the Director of the State School of Building Construction in Dresden and committed suicide at war's end. Incredibly rare signed postcard, 5.5 x 3.5 in., June 6, 1936, prominently showing an image of 'Haus Wachenfeld' - Hitler's Berchtesgaden vacation home where Angela Hitler and Geli Raubal had lived for many years, later rebuilt and renamed the 'Berghof'. As the Fuhrer's housekeeper and head of the 'Haus Wachenfeld', Angela writes on the reverse to JOHANNES PANT, a priest in the Vienna hostel where Hitler once lived and who was believed to be responsible for the 'cover up' burial of Geli Raubal. In full: ‘Dear Hans, I am here sending you a picture of the new house! Friedl was married the day before yesterday! Leo [Raubal] is in Belgrade! How are things with you? Could you not condescend to write me a really detailed letter! Kind regards, Geli'. Fine condition, with June 22, 1936 cancel. Three years after moving into the 'Haus Wachenfeld', Adolf Hitler's possessiveness and control of Geli Raubel led to her suicide in 1931 at the age of 23, when she shot herself in Hitler's Munich apartment with Hitler's Walther pistol. Despite this, Angela Hitler continued to work for her half-brother after her daughter's death, eventually leaving Berchtesgaden after her strong disapproval of Hitler's relationship with Eva Braun. Leo Raubel, Jr. (1906-1977) was the Austrian half-nephew of Hitler who served in the Luftwaffe during World War II and was apparently a favorite of Hitler. Raubal, on the other hand, seems to have disliked his half-uncle and blamed him for the suicide of his sister Geli. Later in the war, Raubal would have a further beef with the Fuhrer: when he was injured during the Battle of Stalingrad and Friedrich Paulus requested that he be evacuated to Germany. Hitler refused, hoping for a prisoner exchange for Stalin's son, which Stalin refused. Raubal would be jailed in Moscow for almost 12 years before being released in 1955!
