(1767-1845) Seventh President of the United States, "Old Hickory" became a national hero in his defense of New Orleans and as president encouraged Western expansion and paid off the national debt. Early manuscript D.S. "Andrew Jackson Major Genl Comdg D. of the South" 1p. oblong 4to., New Orleans, Apr. 14, 1816 ordering the quartermaster general to "...pay Mr. C. Adams for the use of Four horses employed in transporting General Jackson & suite to [illeg.] The Quartermaster General will also Furnish two Hacks to convey myself & suite to Abbaville [sic. Abbeville]." Datelined "New Orleans April 14th 1816-" in Jackson's hand. Professionally encapsulated, light folds, light dampstain at bottom margin, else very good. From the B. T.
