(1817 - 1894) Civil War Governor of Pennsylvania who raised troops for the Union and supplied militia to enforce the armies at Gettysburg. A group of four pieces including a partly-printed D.S. as governor, 1p. oblong folio, Harrisburg, Jan. 22, 1855, an appointment of Thomas S. Herr as aide-de-camp; partly-printed D.S.1p. oblong 8vo., Harrisburg, Feb. 10, 1857, a pay order for the School Department; partly-printed D.S. as governor, 1p. oblong folio, Harrisburg, Oct. 14, 1864, an appointment of William Wilson as colonel in the 81st Pennsylvania Volunteers. Offered together with ex-Union Major General JOHN W. GEARY (1819 - 1873) partly-printed D.S. as Governor of Pennsylvania, 1p. folio, Harrisburg, Apr. 12, 1870, a land warrant. Together four pieces in very good condition.
