Description:

AMERICAN GI PHOTOGRAPHIC ARCHIVE OF DACHAU & POSTWAR GERMANY MAY 1945
A remarkable collection of candid and unpublished photographs taken of the horrors of Dachau by an American serviceman, Pvt. Charles Rogowski of the 116th Evac. Hospital in May 1945. Rogowski discovered a high-quality German camera en route to the camps, and used it to document his findings. The collection includes the original camera, an Orion Rio 14 folding camera (originally sold in Mannheim), together with 29 glass plate negatives (together with some film negatives of the same plates), six metal Zeiss Ikon plate holders and related equipment. The subject matter varies between 'sightseeing' shots and images of Dachau including images of "kapos" demonstrating how they disposed of corpses in the crematorium as well as images of piled corpses. Other images include Pvt. Rogosksy's (well-deserved) R&R in the French Riviera. Accompanied by a few positives of the plates. A superb and unusual assemblage of material in overall very good to fine condition. Should be viewed.
