Description:

ALLIED WAR CRIMES CHIEF INVESTIGATOR BADGE
A badge of incredible rarity, that of a 'Chief Investigator Allied War Crimes USA', issued to the highest level American investigators working on behalf of prosecutors of war criminals in the wake of World War II. This gold-plated badge, 3 in. tall, bears a central disc with the acronym 'ARPM' which we have been unable to decipher. Inset text about the disc reads 'CHIEF INVESTIGATOR ALLIED WAR CRIMES' with 'USA' appearing in a small panel at bottom. A spread-winged eagle is set at the top of the badge. No maker in indicated on the reverse, which has a vertical pin. Overall fine. There can exist only a tiny handful of these badges, issued to the most senior investigators at Nuremberg, Tokyo, and perhaps a few in the U.S. BENJAMIN FERENCZ (1920-2023), Chief Prosecutor for the U.S. Army at the Einsatzgruppen Trial, bore this title. A great rarity.
