Description:

ALLIED WAR CRIMES AGENT INVESTIGATOR BADGE
An exceedingly rare badge, that of an 'Agent Investigator Allied War Crimes USA', issued to American investigators working under chief investigators and prosecutors during war crimes trials in the wake of World War II. This silver plated badge, 3 in. tall, bears a central disc with the acronym 'ARPM' which we have been unable to decipher. Inset text about the disc reads 'AGENT INVESTIGATOR ALLIED WAR CRIMES' with 'USA' appearing in a small panel at bottom. A spread-winged eagle is set at the top of the badge. No maker in indicated on the reverse, which has a vertical pin. Overall fine. Very little information exists concerning the number of these agents serving at Nuremberg, Tokyo, and in the U.S., but we know that the total size of the prosecutorial and guard staffs at Nuremberg was only 1,000, therefore field agents could only have comprised a small handful of men. A great rarity, in fine condition.
