ALEXANDER HAMILTON AND AARON BURR A fine pair of items signed by America's two most famous duelists, includes ALEXANDER HAMILTON (1755-1804) American politician who, with Madison and Jay, supported the Constitution through contributions to The Federalist, first Secretary of the Treasury who built the national fiscal system, mortally wounded in a duel with Aaron Burr. A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Philadelphia, Mar. 26, 1792 to a Mr. Seton: "...I send you an Official Order for 50,000 Dollars subject to the direction in my private letter of yesterday...you will only present the inclosed when necessary..." Some toning, else very good, sold with a document signed by the man who killed him, AARON BURR (1756-1836) Vice President under Jefferson with whom he had been tied in the Presidential election of 1800, defeated through the efforts of Alexander Hamilton whom he later killed in a duel, D.S. 1p. 12mo., New York, Apr. 25, 1800, a partly-printed check in the amount of $120 made payable to a "Wm J[?]", cut cancelled with no effect on signature. Both pieces are matted together with portraits and set into a silver wood frame.
