Description:

ADOLF HUHNLEIN
(1881 - 1942) Close Hitler associate and participant in the Beer Hall Putsch, a member of the 'Order of the Blood', later head of the National Socialist Motor Corps. Fine content and association T.L.S. on his official letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Berlin, Nov. 3, 1939 to Foreign Minister JOACHIM VON RIBBENTROP. In part: '...To save tires and fuel, I stopped holding motor sport events in Germany for the duration of the war. On the other hand, I intend to send our victorious racing cars and motorcycles to events in neutral countries in the coming years as well. The victories of our German drivers in German vehicles in particular have boosted the exports of our German automotive industry so significantly in recent years that I would not want to see this important advertising medium for our exports left unexploited. I have no doubt that America and Italy in particular will try to regain the export position in the Nordic countries and Balkan countries that Germany lost. Car and motorcycle races have always been carried out in the countries with strong German participation, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Hungary and Sweden. For motorcycles, there would still be potential uses in Denmark, Norway and Finland. I now intend - in order to get sporting events going in the above-mentioned countries - to invite the representatives of the international motor sport clubs to meetings in Berlin, not only to ensure that such events are held, but also to give the invited personalities an insight into our conditions during wartime. I would therefore be grateful if you would send me your view of my intended project...since I would like to issue invitations as soon as possible. I salute you in old battle loyalty Heil Hitler!...' A few stray ink stains, some text underlined in blue indelible pencil, else very good. On April 9, 1940, Hitler would invade Denmark, and the Low Countries shortly thereafter, putting a quick end to Huhnlein's hopes for any competitions or exports.
