Description:

ADOLF HITLER APPOINTS FRITZ SAUCKEL TO A REICHSBAHN POSITION
ADOLF HITLER (1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Important D.S., 1p. large 4to. on Hitler's embossed 'Der Fuhrer' letterhead, 'Fuhrer Headquarters', Dec. 12, 1942, sent to FRITZ SAUCKEL (1894-1946), Nazi chief of slave labor recruitment who seized over five million workers and kept them under the vilest conditions. In part: '...By reason of Section 5 of the law covering the German Reich's Railway...dated July 4, 1939, I appoint you to membership of the Advisory Council of the German Reich's Railway for the period of Jan. 1, 1943 to December 31, 1945...' Signed by Hitler at the conclusion, as well as an unidentified representative of the Reich Transportation Minister JULIUS DORPMULLER. Also signed at the bottom and made official by HANS LAMMERS (1879-1962), Minister and Chief of the Reich Chancellery. Fine. This was a very convenient appointment for both Hitler and Sauckel. The previous March, Sauckel was appointed to the position for which he would be forever linked in history, General Plenipotentiary for Labor Deployment. Hitler issued a decree on 30 September 1942 granting Sauckel extraordinary powers over both civil and military authorities in the occupied territories. His agents were authorized 'to issue directives to the competent military and civilian authorities' to ensure an adequate supply of laborers - slave laborers, in reality. Sauckel's appointment to the Reichsbahn 'advisory' board was undoubtedly made to facilitate the transport of these unfortunates. A chilling document.
