Description:

ADOLF HITLER
(1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Superb S.P. "Adolf Hitler", 9 1/4" x 11 3/4" b/w, photographer Hoffman's famous half-length pose of the dictator with his fist on his hip and swastika armband visible on his left sleeve, boldly signed in blue ink at bottom. Very fine condition. This exact image in this size was used by Hitler as a presentation photograph, often sent to high-ranking officers and foreign leaders in a silver presentation frame. A pencil note on verso indicates that it originates from the state of American Gen. JULIUS KLEIN. Klein was a hero during World War II, when he saved many lives during an explosion at New Caledonia in the South Pacific. In 1941, he formulated an important military plan called "Combat Public Relations", which encompassed such topics as psychological warfare and propaganda. He also helped ameliorate both German-American and German-Israel relations after World War II. Klein ver possible "liberated" this photo while in Germany at war's end.
