Description:

ADOLF HITLER
Historic, typed D.S. on "Der Fuhrer" letterhead with blind-embossed eagle, 1p. large 4to., "Fuhrer-Headquarters" [Berlin], Feb. 1, 1944, in German. In full: "I give to the 90th SS-Standard the name 'Franz Kutschera'". Boldly signed by Hitler at bottom in black ink, also initialed "HH" in green indelible pencil by HEINRICH HIMMLER, who approve the re-naming on the division. Fine condition. Franz Kutschera (1904-1944) was an SS general and Gauleiter of Carinthia. As SS and Police Leader of the Warsaw District, he was executed by the Polish Home Army (with the approval of the exiled Polish Government) in front of the SS headquarters in central Warsaw on the very day that Hitler signed this order so honoring the assassinated general. Indeed, this division (the "Carinthia" Division) had been commanded by Kutschera from 1935-38.
