Description:

ABRAHAM LINCOLN
(1809-1865) Sixteenth President of the United States who led the Union through the Civil War and emancipated the slaves, assassinated. A.D.S. cut from a letter, 3 1/8" x 2 1/2", in full: "Let this man take the oath of Dec. 8, 1863 & be discharged. A. Lincoln March 8, 1865". Very good condition. Lincoln typically penned these notes on letters sent to him by Confederate prisoners in Union prisons seeking paroles in order to be allowed to return home. This particular example was signed only five weeks before his murder.
