A LOCK OF DANIEL WEBSTER'S HAIR
A rare relic, a large lock of about fifty strands of Daniel Webster's dark brown hair, held with a pink silk thread. Accompanied by a period letter of provenance penned on a small lined sheet, in full: "Cut from Mr. Webster's head by Mrs. J. M. Cheney about the year 1843 when Mr. Webster was staying in Mrs. Cheney's house in Concord, Mass. Caroline F. Cheney". Along with an original carte-de-visite portrait of Webster by Charles D. Fredericks & Co., New York. Fine condition. A "Louisa Hosmer Cheney" is cited in the biography Daniel Webster The Man and His Time, by Robert V. Remini: Webster corresponded with the lady, at one time describing the Webster homestead.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyer's should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
