4TH CONNECTICUT CLOTHING RETURN
Manuscript D.S. 2pp. large oblong folio (12" x 29") [n.p.] Aug. 1770 - July 1780, an account for "Officers Cloathing" in the 4th Connecticut Regiment. The document lists the names of numerous officers, listing the date they drew clothing from the supply and a grid indicating what they took including "Beaver Hatts, Castor Hatts, Over Coats, Uniform Coats, Woolen Vests, Linnen Vests Woolen Breeches, Fine Shirts, Coarse Shirts, Shoes, Plain Cloath, Cambrich, Thread, Twist, Vest Buttons, Linnen Overalls" and much more. The 4th Connecticut saw action during the defense of Philadelphia, (1777); spent the winter at Valley Forge and fought at Monmouth in 1778. In October 1780 the regiment included an all-black company of 48 privates and NCO's. At Yorktown about 20 members of the regiment participated in the taking of Redoubt #10. Usual folds, light soiling form damp staining, else very good.
