Description:

36-STAR CIVIL WAR-ERA AMERICAN FLAG
Civil War-era American flag, 27 1/2" x 17 1/2", a fairly loosely-woven cotton with printed design, likely used for decorative or political purposes. The flag appears to be weather-worn, and appealingly so - the red stripes have faded somewhat, as has the blue field, there appears a small soiled tear at left and two stains at right, all of which give the flag more character. Nicely set into an antiqued wood frame and ready for display. This pattern of flag became the official United States Flag on July 4th, 1865 when a star was added for the admission of Nevada (October 31st, 1864). It would last until July 4, 1867 when Nebraska joined the Union.
