Description:

CIVIL WAR UNION INFANTRY DRUM
Regulation Civil War infantry eagle drum, 16 1/2" diameter, 13" tall, all parts original and authentic including skins. Bottom skin shows an early repair, likely contemporary to the war. All fittings and ropes are present and intact. Except for a negligible scuff, the eagle and shield motif is excellent, typical of those of the period. Maker's label within reads: "Manufactured by A. ROGERS, Flushing, L.I. [New York]". Rogers was one of the most prominent of drum makers and the quality of their work makes them particularly desireable. The body of the drum may have been shortened one inch or so, such alteration contemporary to the construction of the drum and likely to conform to the preferences of its owner. Overall very presentable and a fine display piece.
