173. 1863 GETTYSBURG COLLEGE STUDENT COLLEGE CATALOGUE A rare Gettysburg war-date booklet entitled: "CATALOGUE of the OFFICERS, ALUMNI AND STUDENTS of PENNSYLVANIA COLLEGE, Gettysburg, Pa., FOR THE COLLEGIATE YEAR 1862-63", 24pp. 8vo., published by Gettysburg printer, H. C. Neinstedt, Franklin Street, [late August] 1863. Contained within are complete lists of the board of trustees, faculty, alumni and, most importantly, the 123 members of the student body present during the battle of Gettysburg. Also included are the terms of admission, curriculum and other sundry details unique to the institution. The final paragraph of the booklet outlines the part the college played in the battle of Gettysburg, in part: "In consequence of the great and sanguinary battles, fought, on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of July last...the College edifice was used, by [the] Government, for four weeks as a hospital for the wounded after the defeat and repulse of the enemy. A thorough cleansing, and a considerable amount of repairs have been rendered necessary...this work will...be done as soon as possible...upon the call of the Governor for Volunteers to defend the State...a company consisting chiefly of sixty College students...were the first to reach Harrisburg, June 17th...to be mustered into the service for the 'Emergency'". Possibly bound with other pamphlets at one time. Negligible fold crease with little toning, else very good. $350 - 450
