Lot 1304
1304. GEORGI K. ZHUKOV (1896-1974) Soviet Field Marshall, perhaps the greatest general of World War II, he survived crushing poverty and Stalin's purges to command the Russian armies at the monumental battles of Moscow and Kursk, and in the taking of Berlin. Typed D.S. 4pp. legal folio, July 28, 1945 as head of the Red Army occupation troops in Germany approving a statement by Major General Ivan Kamenski, head of the 4th Elite Artillery Division. Signed by Zhukov and other high ranking functionaries during their notorious occupation of Berlin in which thousands of women were raped and homes plundered by vengeful Soviet troops. Stalin, fearful of Zhukov, who was now a very popular war hero, recalled him from his post as governor of the Russian Zone in Germany placing him in command of an unimportant military district in order to sideline his potential rival. Light toning, otherwise very good. $300-500
