Description:

ZEPPELIN HINDENBURG SILVER FABRIC AND GAS BAG CRASH RELICS
Rare relics from the tragic May 6, 1937 crash of the German passenger airship Hindenburg at Lakehurst, New Jersey, several sections of fabric that once made up part of the outer "skin" and inner gas-containing bag of the ill-fated zeppelin. Present is a piece of the silver-painted outer skin, 5.5 x 2.5 in. overall, along with a piece of varnish-covered fabric which contained the explosive hydrogen which ignited and burned causing the craft's destruction, 4.25 x 2.5 in. Also included is a copy of a vintage photograph, 5 x 3.5 in., showing the Hindenburg in flames with typed description on the face (damaged), and a 5 x 3 in. copy of a photo of the wreckage of the Hindenburg lying where it fell. These relics were recovered at the crash scene by Harry H. Kroh, former mayor and reporter for the Asbury Park (N.J.) Press and the Newark Morning Call, who also owned the photographs and they are accompanied by a copy of his obituary. Obtained from the estate, thence consigned to us.
