Description:

ZEPPELIN HINDENBURG PHOTO GROUPING
Oustanding grouping of 19 original photographs of the ill-fated zeppelin Hindenburg, destroyed by fire resulting from the ignition of its hydrogen gas-filled interior while mooring at Lakehurst, New Jersey on May 6, 1937. Photos vary in size, though the great majority are 8" x 10", and ten bear back stamps of various American and German newspapers or press agencies, some with captions. All of the photos are period images. Eleven photos show the airship in flight, moored, or entering a hangar (eight of these apparently taken in the U.S.), one shows the ship upon the ground with the senior officers surrounded by Germans with Nazi armbands, and the remaining five images show the burning airship as it crashes to the ground at Lakehurst, New Jersey. Also present is an original Look magazine print of the iconic 1937 photo of the Hindenburg in flames, stamped "JAN 1947" on verso, although this may have been only the date of use and the photo may be contemporary to the crash. All photos are very good, matted.
