Description:

ZACHARY TAYLOR IS LAMBASTED BY A BALTIMORE DETRACTOR
Fine content A.L.S., 3pp. 4to., Baltimore, Oct. 11, 1849 in which Franklin Dix writes about a visit by Zachary Taylor to a cattle show outside his city. In part: "...the greatest attraction seemd to be in an animal which some time since came from Mexico and is now kept at the White House...this common looking biped is no other than Old Zack who came here yesterday...the great Oxen, Sheep, Cows...are not even noticed when he is about...the ladies are all kissing his coarse looking face which if it was attached to any other personage they would hardly look at...has on the same coat which I presume he wore on his wedding day...He rode to the grounds in an omnibus which caused some laughter...". Very good.
