Description:

(ZACHARY TAYLOR) INAUGURAL BALL INVITATION
A rare engraved invitation to the GRAND INAUGURATION BALL, 1p. 4to., [Washington] Mar. 5, 1849, held in honor of the inauguration of Zachary Taylor as President and Millard Fillmore as Vice President at Judiciary Square. The invitation features a very nice engraving of Taylor in uniform overlooking a valley filled with a vast array of soldiers in maneuvers. Below the engraving of Taylor and the invitation is the list of managers being a veritable who's who of American politics at mid-century including Abraham Lincoln and Robert E. Lee as well as Winfield Scott, Joseph E. Johnston, Alexander Stephens and many others. Light scattered foxing throughout, evenly toned, else very good to fine condition.
